Nelliyampathy

From the town of Nenmara in Palakkad district, the cloud-caressed peaks of the majestic Nelliyampathy hill ranges are a sight to behold. The height of the hills ranges from 467 m to 1572 m. To reach Nelliyampathy, one has to take the road starting from Nenmara that proceeds to the Pothundy Dam. There are about 10 hairpin bends that have to be negotiated on the way to Nelliyampathy.

The Pothundy Dam is a picturesque locale with facilities for boating and is a nice option as a picnic place. As the Ghat road winds its way up to Nelliyampathy, at certain places there are viewpoints from where the vast stretches of Palakkad district are visible with its extensive paddy fields forming a verdant carpet. It also offers a splendid view of the Palakkad Gap, which is a geographical phenomenon in the Western Ghats formation in this region, bringing into view, parts of the adjoining State of Tamilnadu.

Silent Valley National Park...

The Silent Valley National Park is probably one of the most magnificent gifts of nature to Kerala, a unique preserve of tropical rain forests in all its glory and with an almost unbroken ecological history. The Silent Valley is bounded with high and continuous ridges and steep escarpments, as a result the valley is shielded from the extreme climatic as well as anthropogenic interventions and so it remained as an ecological island with a special micro climate.

A perennial river named Kunthipuzha is passing through the western side of the park, from north to south in direction finally merging in to Bharathapuzha. Main tributaries of this river are Kunthancholapuzha, Karingathodu, Madrimaranthode, Valiaparathodu and Kummathanthode. All major tributaries of Kunthipuzha originate on the upper slopes of the eastern side of the Valley. The streams from the western slopes are dry in summer.

Eravikulam National Park...

Eravilkulam National park is located 700ft above the sea level and is rich in its diverse ecological system.At Eravikulam national park wild life is protected and preserved at its best.It is also known as the land of “Neelakurinji”, the flower that blooms once in twelve years. The Park is breath takingly beautiful and is easily comparable to the best of mountain ranges in the Alps. With the highest peak south of the Himalayas – the Anamudi, located is here. It is one of the best places for trekking and watching the wild life at its best.

Vythiri

Vythiri hills are located at about 2600ft above sea level, Vythiri offers a true picture of Wayanad. The lush green undulating mountains capped by mist, the gorges and ravines, the beautiful valleys and the streams of Vythiri makes it a perfect place to hang out. The rural ambience of Vythiri is enhanced by the presence of not only the evergreen forests but also by the acres of sprawling tea, coffee and spice plantations.

Varkala

Varkala Papanasham beach is one of the major tourist destinations for beach loving tourists. Papanasham beach has lot to offer for tourists like natural mineral water springs, calm and serene beaches, wide array of coconut palms, beach covered by cliffs on the banks. The view of Varkala Papanasham beach from the hill top is spectacular and breathtaking.
